The Sparkle

From The Homemaker Sessions
From The Homemaker Sessions

Your romanticised ideas make me giggle a little
You imagine my career with such grandeur and glitter
Ruminating with your peers while I sit in the middle
And listen

How do I explain this strange infatuation
With the sparkle
That plays upon the water
The picture on the cover
Isn’t all the novel has to offer

I obey the laws of physics so I visit the limits
You can read it in my lyrics ’cause I’m pretty prolific
You misimagine the idyllic
But I posit that isn’t implicit

Maybe I’m a stranger making your acquaintance
If the author is never quite the person
That maybe you imagined
Is is harder to look beneath the sparkle?
