New Single ELECTRIC LIGHT DISCO BABY 4 days to go: ELECTRIC

4 days to go

In the run-up to the release of the first single from the Glitter Punch Project I will be writing a daily blog. There aren’t that many days to go, as it happens, but this has worked in my favour.

I want to use these four days to talk about four things. Or rather, I want to use them to talk about the Project from four different angles. Even luckier still the title of the single is made up of four beautifully relevant words.

So without further ado I will begin with ELECTRIC.

ELECTRIC

Technology is wonderful, isn’t it? The modern world runs on all things electronic. Increasingly artists are hijacking this technology to achieve feats of creativity unknown in times past, working in particular in ‘The Cloud’. We are most definitely in that category of artists.

If it were not for the Internet we would likely never have met. Not just because we didn’t bump into each other on campus, but because we might never have found a love for Japanese and Korean pop, common elements in our vision for the musical direction of the Project. And what’s more if it weren’t for The Cloud there would be no way for us to forge new music in the way we are doing now. Low quality MP3s over e-mail? No, thank you, sir.

I was on the phone to my mum this evening and she was asking me when I was going to meet up with Matt to start recording our album. I was taken aback for a moment, trying to find the words to explain what we were doing. I had to settle with, “we both have the facilities to record. I send him recordings of my voice and he puts the instruments in the background.”

That’s really all there is to it. Dropbox, e-mail, Facebook chat. Communication and storage. They’re simple, but vital solutions for musicians of the digital age.

We become self-aware while adding our finishing touches to Laser (which now sounds awesome, BTW).

EDIT:

Hmm, maybe I should have said to mum, “I send him glitter in the post and he punches it.”
